Continuation of my story, where Jake and Heath are actors on a nighttime soap opera.

Chapter Seven

“I can’t believe they made my character gay,” Heath said at lunchtime.

“I can’t wait to see how Jack reacts,” said Anne.

“You read the script - ‘His mouth drops open in surprise’.”

“Yes, but what’s he going to say?”

“I think he should say, ‘I love you, too, Ennis’,” said Linda.

“Bullshit,” Heath said.  “Jack is straight.  He’s been going with Lureen since last season.”

“So?  Maybe he’s been in denial all this time.  Then, he met Ennis and he can’t deny it any longer.  What do you think, Jake?”

“I think it’s going to be pretty interesting, regardless of what happens,” Jake replied.  “I mean, we know that Jack considers Ennis his best friend.  I can’t imagine Jack beating Ennis up or not being his friend anymore.  Maybe he will tell Ennis that he loves him, too.”

“This is crazy,” Heath said.  “What are the viewers going to think?”

“They’ll eat it up,” Linda said.  “Love triangles are always big with soap fans.”

“But this is four people,” Heath said.  “Ennis, Jack, Alma, and Lureen.  What’s that, a love square?”

Everyone chuckled - except for Michelle.  She had been quiet this whole time; now she stood up, tray in hand, and said, “Excuse me.”

“Where are you going?” Anne asked her.

“I need some fresh air,” Michelle said, and walked off.

“I wonder what’s wrong?” Anne said.

Heath rose from his seat.  “I’ll see if I can talk to her.”  He had a feeling he knew what the problem was.

He caught up with Michelle as she was heading for her and Anne’s dressing room.  “Hey,” he said, “wanna talk?”

She said nothing, just walked into the room and held the door open so he could come in as well.

“What’s going on?” Heath asked.

Michelle’s face was pink, and her eyes shone.  Her voice was quiet as she said, “It’s bad enough that he gets you in real life; now he gets you on the show, too?”  Shaking her head, she sat down.

“I’m sorry,” was all Heath could think of to say.

“Alma finally finds a guy she likes, and he turns out to be gay.”  She laughed humorlessly.  “Art imitates life, isn’t that what they say?  Or, is it the other way around?”

“I don’t know,” Heath said.  He knelt down beside her.  “Are you going to be all right?”

“Sure, I’ll be fine,” she answered, and sighed.  “Maybe I need to get off this show.  Try my hand at movies, or maybe the theater.”

“But, the fans love Alma.  Look at all the letters you get every week.  If anything, once this episode airs, people will be calling for Ennis to leave.”

“I hope not.  You’re a really good actor.”

Heath leaned in and gave her a hug.  “We’ll get through this,” he said.  “And, who knows, maybe you’ll get to play a big, emotional scene and wind up with an Emmy nomination.”

She laughed at that, then stood up.  He followed, and together they walked back to the commissary.

“Everything okay?” Jake asked, when they got there.

“Yeah, everything’s fine,” Heath replied.

Anne and Linda looked at each other and shrugged.

“So, did you have fun last night?” Heath asked Jake, as they got ready to go home.

“It was okay,” Jake said.  He lowered his voice and added, “I kind of missed you, though.”

“I missed you, too,” Heath said, just as quietly.

“Want to get together tonight?”

“My place or yours?”

“Mine’s closer.”

They walked out of the studio, only to be surrounded by fans and photographers on the sidewalk.  Heath and Jake took several minutes to sign autographs and pose for pictures, and then finally caught a cab to take them to Jake’s.

“Whew,” Heath said, settling into the back seat, “I don’t remember that many people being out there yesterday.”

“You’re getting more popular,” Jake told him.  “Wait until The Party Episode airs.”

Heath rolled his eyes.  “They’re gonna hate me after that.”

Jake laughed.  “I doubt it.”

They arrived at Jake’s apartment and practically ran for the elevator.  Once inside, Jake pushed Heath against one of the walls and kissed him, hard.

“Jesus, Jake,” Heath said breathlessly, “they could have cameras in here!”

“I don’t care,” Jake replied, and kissed him again, this time sliding his tongue into Heath’s mouth.  Heath could do little more than hold onto Jake’s coat and kiss him back.

The elevator stopped on Jake’s floor, and this time they did run, down the hall to Jake’s apartment.  Jake’s hands were shaking as he unlocked the door; Heath laughed a little at this.  When they were finally inside, Jake slammed the door, pushed Heath up against it, and kissed him again.  Seconds later, he was down on his knees, undoing Heath’s pants.

“Jake, what’re you--” Heath began, but then he could no longer speak (or think) coherently, because his dick was in Jake’s mouth.  “Uuuugggghhh…ooohhhh…J-Jake, oh shit, oh fuck…”

Jake licked and sucked on Heath’s dick as if it were his favorite flavor of popsicle.  Heath squirmed against the door and thrust his hips in and out, as Jake’s mouth worked its magic.  The warmth, the wetness, and the suction drove him out of his mind, and soon he was coming, shooting his load down Jake’s throat.

Jake swallowed every drop; then, he stood up, kissed Heath on the lips and said, “Let’s go to bed.”

Heath could barely walk, but somehow he made it to the bedroom.  He and Jake took off their clothes and got under the blankets, where Heath rolled on top of Jake and began kissing him all over.

“Heath,” Jake sighed.

Heath paused in the act of kissing Jake’s chest.  “Yeah, baby?”

“Mmm.  You’re amazing,” Heath replied, and went back to his task.  He made his way down Jake’s body; when he reached Jake’s dick, he licked the length of it several times before putting it into his mouth.

“Heath!  Oh, Jesus,” Jake cried.

Heath grasped the base of Jake’s dick and began sucking it in earnest.  Jake writhed on the bed, calling out Heath’s name.  When he came, he arched his back and shouted, “Oh!  Heath!”

Afterward, they lay in each other’s arms and drowsed for a bit.  When they awoke, they had sex, slowly and tenderly.  But to Heath, it was much more than sex.  We’re making love, he thought, as he moved inside of Jake.  The thought frightened and thrilled him all at once.

When they finished, Jake said to him, “Stay the night.”

“I can’t,” Heath said.

“Why not?”

“How would it look if I came into work tomorrow in the same clothes I was wearing today?”

“I guess you’re right.”  Jake snuggled up against him.  “But, don’t leave just yet.”

“Okay.”  If I had my way, Heath thought, holding Jake close, I’d never leave this bed again.

Two days later, the cast filmed the party episode.  Heath was nervous; he was afraid that he was going to accidentally say “Jake, I love you” instead of “Jack, I love you.”  After going into Make-Up and Wardrobe, he went back to the dressing room to get into his character.  I’m Ennis del Mar, he kept telling himself.  When the time came to get in front of the cameras, he was ready.

Mr. Lee shot two takes of the so-called Confession Scene.  When it was over, Jake gave Heath a big hug, and everyone else around them clapped.  Heath felt his face turn red, and hurried off the set.

“That went really well,” Jake told him later, as they got ready to go home.

“Yeah, it did,” Heath said.  “I’m still worried about what the viewers are going to think, though.”

“Don’t worry.  I’ll bet we get our highest ratings yet.  And you know people will watch the next episode to see what happens.”

“Well, I hope I don’t get any hate mail, or anything like that.”

“You might, but who cares?  Trust me, Heath, it’s going to be fine.”  Jake reached out and patted Heath on the back.

“If you say so,” Heath said.
